Sani Pass, Lesotho

This trip will take you to the Highest Pub in the Southern Hemisphere. You will need to bring your passport and the drive will take you through the Drakensberg and up the Sani Pass into the Kingdom of Lesotho.

Lesotho is situated on the border of KwaZulu Natal, the Free State and the Eastern Cape. It was originally name Basutoland and renamed to the Kingdom of Lesotho when it was liberated from British rule in 1966. The current Prime Minister of Lesotho is Tom Thabane, since 16 June 2017. The Lesotho Government is a constitutional monarchy. The Prime Minister, Tom Thabane, is head of government and has executive authority. The King serves a largely ceremonial function.

The Sani Pass lies between the 2 borders of South Africa and Lesotho and is approximately 9km. The pass is very steep and winds up the side of a mountain. It is recommended that the pass is takled in a 4 x 4 vehicle.

At the top of the pass is the Sani Mountain Lodge where you can enjoy a hot drink or a drink from the pub and a good meal. The views from the top of the pass are spectacular.

From here you have the choice of either going back down the pass or going on into Lesotho (this would then be an overland trip) and seeing some of the other magnificent passes and sights of Lesotho.
