Ngome Marian Shrine

Church on the Rock

There is a sanctuary built at a meeting point of seven springs in the heart of Zululand, as per reported instrucitons from Our Lady to Sr May, This sanctuary has become the Lourdes or Fatima of the South.

Like in other countries, South Africa also enjoys Our Lady’s deep love. Our Mother is seriously interested in the welfare and salvation of all.

Back in 1966, a humble Shrine was already built at Ngome at the request of Sr. Reinold May. She had reason to believe that Our Lady wanted a Shrine erected on Church property. In 1985 Bishop Biyase of Eshowe blessed a larger Chapel which was built on the rock opposite the first Shrine.

This pictureque Shrine amidst such beautiful scenery has become a place of pilgrimages for the glory of Our Saviour Jesus Christ, in celebration fo the Holy Eucharist.

This is a Catholic Shrine with Catholic priests where pilgrimages can go to pray, reflect and confess. However, all are welcome to go to this Shrine for prayer and hopefully find peace. It is open to all.

Should you wish to visit the Shrine, a 2 night stay is suggested. The trip is either from a Monday to Wednesday or from Wednesday to Friday. Weekends can be arranged, however, bookings are made for up to a year in advance on weekends.

Accommodation is in a Lodge – very basic but clean and food is supplied. The drive to Ngome from Durban takes about 4 and half hours. This trip can be combined with a trip to a Game Reserve.
